Individual Therapy

Individual therapy with me incorporates a range of modalities, techniques and principles:
-
My core training is in Dramatherapy, which utilises creative methods as a way of distancing ourselves from the problem, so we can see it differently. For example, we might draw an image of what our depression looks like, or think of a character from a story that we admire or relate to. There is no need to be skilled/proficient in creative activities - everyone can be creative, and it's more about getting what is inside, out. I guide you through this, but the bulk of our work can still be talking (like you might expect from therapy).
-
I use my Systemic Family Practice training even when working with individuals - I think about the 'systems' you are part of (like work, school, family, society) and how they have impacted you. We think about the different identities you hold and how these show up in your interactions, thinking and challenges.
-
I use a person centred approach - I see you as the expert on your life, and I am a guide to ask things differently and offer some new perspectives. I want to get to know you, even the messy stuff that you try not to show, and I work to help you feel comfortable to share this. I will keep checking in on our therapeutic relationship to ensure this is a strong as possible.
